That Oil Went Where...?

Morning, friends!

Okay, just a quick tidbit before moving on with the post: It Snowed!!! That means no school for my sister and I til 10! Thank you, icy roads! (Although everyone be extremely safe and careful!)

Alright, so yesterday morning, I decided to go out on a limb, and try something a bit different. Care to take a guess?

Yes, at 6:27am yesterday morning, I made the decision to try oil pulling.

Sounds painful, right?

For those of y'all unaware of what oil pulling is, basically it's the process of removing toxins from your body by swishing coconut oil for about 15 minutes. Crazy, right? When I first read about it (there was a pin floating around on Pinterest), I thought it sounded disgusting. Swishing Oil? Eww! However, as I kept reading the article, I realized that it did make a bit of sense, and decided to give it a try. No harm in trying, right?

For the first 10 seconds or so, it was gruesome. Imagine an icky, oily coconut liquid with random chunks of coconut. Errrrhhh. However, after those 10 seconds, it was smooth sailing. I made it about 5 minutes before I got bored of the process, and spit it out. A bit TMI here, but I swear I could see the toxins in the expelled oil. Fantastic!

There isn't any harm caused by oil pulling, and if anything, I did in fact have absolutely NO smell in my breath what so ever, so that's a plus. It's worth a shot! (Just don't swallow the oil!)

Breakfast
After my oil pulling adventures yesterday A.M, I made myself a FAB coffee mocha, and sat down for some blog readin'.

Once it hit 7am, I had to interrupt myself and head to get dressed and ready for the day. Sadness! I always enjoy my mornings alone. It's "Avery Time".

For breakfast, I was craving one of the burritos the little bro and I had for dinner last night, so a burrito it was!

Mine decapitated :( But hey, it's still protein, right?

Lunch

Lunch today ended up happening in my math classroom. Um....I can explain. Long story short, there was a biology test today. Me + Biology? It ain't so good. I find Bio interesting, it's just not my best skill. Therefore, lunch occurred during some intense study time.

I ended up getting my pickings from the salad bar. I went with greens, some edamame, couscous, a hard boiled egg, cucumber, cherry tomatoes, whole wheat tortellini, and an apple. Yes, our school has a rockin' lunch selection. Thanks, Chef C! You the best!

Groceries Make a a Happy Girl

After school, the mother and I ran to Trader Joe's to pick up some groceries while we waited for our to-go order from a local grill to be ready. We didn't buy a whole ton, but just some snippets for the week.

In the Cart:

- Granola
- Greek Yogurt
- High Fiber Bread (5g per SLICE. HOLLA!)
- Bananas
- Granola Bars
- Latin Style Black Bean Soup (Yes, all those cartons are soup. My family eats a lot...we got two boys.)
- Navel Oranges

Dinner

By the time we rang up and paid, our order was finished up. For my supper, I ordered the Veggie Plate, which came with roasted veggies, cooked spinach, asparagus spears...

...and a small garden salad.

I definitely packed in a few servings of the green stuff in this meal. The roasted veggies are by far one of my favorite foods from there!

Question: What are your grocery staples? Have you ever tried Oil Pulling? Would You try Oil Pulling?

  3. I've never even HEARD of oil pulling - it sounds like a bit of an unpleasant process, but if it works, it works, right?

    1. I'd say it's more of just...weird. A mouthful of coconut oil? It's a bit strange, but not horribly unpleasant.
